The Bureau of Customs (BOC) and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) nabbed two Chinese nationals attempting to claim an estimated P1.632 billion worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu, during a controlled delivery operation in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija.

The illegal drugs misdeclared as “work bench tables, were shipped by a certain Ywlee 87 Trading of Selangor, Malaysia, and consigned to a certain Allejam International Trading in Manila City. The cargo arrived at a warehouse in Pasay City on October 24, 2020.

The misdeclared cargo, which was identified through intensified surveillance, underwent x-ray scanning and 100% physical examination, which revealed 240 heavily wrapped plastic packs of a white crystalline substance found to be shabu.

The composite team of PDEA, Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group, Customs Anti-Illegal Drug Task Force, Customs Intelligence Investigation Service, and Enforcement Security Service then executed a controlled delivery operation on October 30 that led to the apprehension of the two Chinese nationals who presented themselves as claimants of the cargo in Cabanatuan.

BOC-NAIA has formally turned over the seized illegal drugs to PDEA for further profiling and case-build up against the importers and other responsible persons, and for inquest of the apprehended claimants for violation of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 in relation to Section 1401 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

Since January 2020, BOC-NAIA has intercepted 42 different shipments of illegal drugs.
