Cebu cargo throughput down 8.45% in 2010

The Cebu Ports Authority (CPA) posted an 8.45% decline in domestic cargo volume for 2010 due to anemic performance of its base port and outports.

Total throughput reached 290,563 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) compared with 317,385 TEUs in 2009. Of the aggregate, inbound cargo accounted for 159,479 TEUs, slightly less than the previous year’s 160,483 TEUs. Outbound cargo reached 131,084 TEUs, down 16.45% from 156,902 TEUs.

The Cebu base port in southern Philippines handled 252,117 TEUs, 4% less than 262,846 TEUs of the previous year. Inbound cargo totaled 132,950 TEUs and outbound cargo, 119,167 TEUs, both down from the 133,842 TEUs and 129,005 TEUs registered in 2009, respectively.

For outports Mandaue and Argao, throughput reached 38,446 TEUs .This is 29.5% lower than the 54,539 TEUs posted in 2009. Inbound cargo accounted for 26,529 TEUs and outbound cargo, 11,917 TEUs, also less compared with the 2009 figures of 26,642 TEUs and 27,898 TEUs, respectively.
