Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) added new domestic routes and reconnected with Bangkok, a sign of renewed confidence in travel, the airport’s operator said in a statement.

Philippine Airlines (PAL) recently introduced flights from the Visayas air hub to Baguio City, Cotabato City and Borongan and resumed flights to Bangkok.

Airport operator GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corp. said domestic flights at MCIA are now at 70% of their pre-pandemic levels while international flights are expected to return to pre-COVID levels by the first half of 2023.

PAL’s four-times-a-week Cebu-Baguio offering began on December 16, with the following schedule:

  • PR 2230 Cebu-Baguio, departing every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at Mactan Cebu at 08:50 am and arriving at Baguio Loakan Airport at 10:50am.
  • PR 2231 Baguio-Cebu. Departing Baguio every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 11:10 am and arriving in Cebu at 1:00 pm.

Instead of flying from Manila, travelers can now also depart from MCIA through PAL’s direct flights to Cotabato City and Boracay, Coron, Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro, Clark, Iloilo, Puerto Princesa, Tacloban, and Siargao beginning  December 16. The service to Borongan began on December 19.

Early on, PAL launched twice-weekly flights to the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao through a non-stop Cebu-Cotabato City service and one-stop Cebu to Tawi-Tawi flights operating from the MCIA.

For the Cebu-BARMM route, PR2223 Cebu-Cotabato flies every Monday and Thursday. It departs at 05:20 am and arrives in Cotabato’s Awang Airport at 06:35am. Meanwhile, PR 2224 to Cotabato-Cebu, which flies every Monday and Thursday, departs at 11:00 am and arrives in Mactan-Cebu at 12:15 pm.

PAL’s Cebu to Tawi-Tawi flight (via Cotabato) on Mondays and Thursdays leaves Cebu at 5:20 am and lands at Tawi-Tawi at 08:30 am. The Tawi-Tawi to Cebu (via Cotabato), also on Mondays and Thursdays, leaves Tawi-Tawi at 09:00 am and arrives in Cebu at 12:15 pm.

Since December 9, MCIA has been hosting PAL’s twice-weekly Cebu-Bangkok flights. The service offers morning departures from Cebu and early afternoon departures from Bangkok, providing travelers a three-hour journey without having to connect via Manila or other airports:

  • PR 738 Cebu-Bangkok – every Monday and Friday departing at 09:30 am
  • PR 739 Bangkok-Cebu – every Monday and Friday departing at 01:30 pm
