Cargolux hires new CEO, Asia-Pacific executive

Cargolux_20_LREuropean all-cargo airline Cargolux International Airlines has appointed a new chief executive officer and a new senior vice president for its Asia-Pacific operations.

Named president and chief executive officer is Dirk Reich, who replaces Richard Forson, senior vice president, who had been the interim CEO since August 3, 2012. Forson will remain as senior vice president and chief financial officer.

Reich will also assume the responsibilities of senior vice president of sales and marketing as the company searches for a permanent hire for the SVP post.

Reich previously held the post of executive vice president at Kuehne & Nagel International. Before joining Kuehne & Nagel, he held various positions with Lufthansa and VIAG. He graduated from Wissenschaftliche Hochschule für Unternehmensführung Koblenz in Germany.

“Drawing on his vast worldwide experience in the industry, Dirk brings to Cargolux the experience and leadership required to meet the major challenges confronting the air freight industry,” said chairman Paul Helminger.

Robert Song joins Cargolux as senior vice president of Asia and the Pacific. Before this, he held senior management positions with Air New Zealand Cargo and AirBridgeCargo Airlines. Most recently, he was a senior adviser to the Henan Civil Aviation and Investment Co.

Song will be responsible for maintaining and strengthening Cargolux’s market position in the Asia-Pacific region, including the development of the flight program between Luxembourg and Zhengzhou, China. Song is a graduate of Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.

Meanwhile, Marcel Funk has been promoted to senior vice president and head of flight operations, and Onno Pietersma to senior vice president of maintenance and engineering.

The executive appointments and promotions took effect March 26.
