Bureau of Customs-Port of Cagayan de Oro seized smuggled onions with an estimated worth of P12 million.

In a statement, the bureau said it busted four containers of smuggled agricultural products anew at Mindanao Container Terminal Port, PHIVIDEC Compound, Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental on July 19, 2022.

This is the second seizure at the Port of Cagayan de Oro in less than two weeks.

The latest shipments arrived on July 12 from China consigned to Primex Export and Import Producer declared to be “Spring Roll Patti” as indicated in its inward foreign manifest.

On July 13, district collector Atty. Elvira Cruz issued a Pre Lodgment Control Order against the subject shipment.

During examination, the shipment was found to contain red and white onions estimated to be worth P12 million contrary to its declaration. BOC did not say how much duties were declared by the consignee.

A Warrant of Seizure and Detention will be issued against the shipment for violation of Section 1400 of RA 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

Cruz said she hopes the seizure sends a stern warning to unscrupulous individuals to stop their smuggling activities.

Five containers of smuggled agricultural products were misdeclared as “Autolysed Yeast in Powder Form” but found to contain red onions, white onions, and carrots, a clear violation of Republic Act 10863 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act. The shipments are estimated to be worth P15 million.

They arrived from China on July 2, were physically examined on July 7, and issued Pre-Lodgement Control Orders on July 4.
