The Commission on Appointments (CA) on December 14 confirmed the appointment of Jaime Bautista as secretary of the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

“I eagerly look forward to fulfilling the mandate given to me by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. as Transportation Secretary after earning the affirmation of the Commission on Appointments,” Bautista said in a media statement.

“I am deeply humbled by this early Christmas gift – my first official government post – that validates my new personal mission: public service,” he added.

According to Bautista, his confirmation will be a confidence booster that will help him complete multiple big-ticket infrastructure transport projects while aiming to elevate the country’s transportation systems to global standards.

Bautista took his oath as the new transportation secretary last June 30 after being appointed by Marcos.

Old industry hand

Bautista was president and chief operating officer of PAL until his retirement in 2019. He was with the flag carrier for 26 years, of which he was president and COO for 13 years.

Bautista also held various executive positions in other businesses under the Lucio Tan Group of Companies, and was non-executive director in various other companies.

He earlier said the transportation department under the new administration will focus its efforts on moving passengers and goods and in transforming and elevating the country’s transportation system into global standards.
