Four suspected smuggled vehicles worth an estimated P10 million were seized by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) at the Manila International Container Port (MICP) on May 26, 2021.

Acting on derogatory information, BOC issued an alert order against a shipment from Japan and subjected it to 100% physical examination, revealing four vehicles concealed by 40 bales of used clothing or ukay-ukay. The vehicles consisted of one Porsche Boxter Sports Car, one Mercedes Benz SLK Sports Car, and two Toyota MR-S Sports Cars.

The shipment was consigned to a certain JLFDM Consumer Goods Trading and declared to contain automotive spare parts.

A warrant of seizure and detention was immediately issued against the shipment for possible violation of Section 1400 (Misdeclaration) of Republic Act No. 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

The latest apprehension was part of BOC-MICP’s Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service’s Coplan Tsekot, which is aimed at curbing smuggling of vehicles through MICP.
