The Bureau of Customs-Ninoy Aquino International airport seized P3.86 million worth of illegal drugs on December 13, bringing the number of drug busts by BOC-NAIA this year to 36 with an estimated total street value of P443.26 million.

The prohibited drugs comprising 2,040 ecstasy tablets and 317 cartridges and 14 candies containing cannabis oil were intercepted at the airport’s Central Mail Exchange Center (CMEC). No arrests were mentioned in a BOC press release.

BOC-NAIA said the joint operation with partner agencies led by NAIA District Collector Carmelita Talusan intercepted four air parcels containing the illegal drugs concealed in a foot massager. The seized items were turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for proper disposal.

The ecstasy pills, made of a banned substance generically called 3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), originated in France and were sent to a consignee in Pasig City. The cartridges containing cannabis oil were shipped from the United States to consignees in Malate, Paco, Manila, and Parañaque City.

The illegal drugs are now in the custody of the PDEA for further investigation.

The BOC press release did not say whether the consignees of the seized drugs had been arrested but mentioned filing of charges for possible violation of Republic Act 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and RA 10863, or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

BOC-NAIA also intercepted on December 9 six air parcels containing methamphetamine or “shabu” and cannabis oil.
