The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has procured a backup network to ensure stability and connection, as its existing network has been affected a few times previously by the downtime of its internet service provider.

Once the backup network is completed, BOC will have two network providers, and ports will be connected with two network connections, the bureau said in a statement.

BOC earlier said it procured the backup network on August 25, and it is targeted for delivery this month.

In the past few months BOC has experienced internet service interruptions due to the downtime of its internet service provider, PLDT. During these instances, the connection of BOC collection districts to the agency’s Electronic-to-Mobile System was affected, but those of other online systems such as Customer Care Portal System, entry submission/value-added service providers, payment and release systems were not.

In addition to the backup network, BOC is utilizing cybersecurity solutions to prevent, among others, cyberattacks, data breaches, and identity theft.

BOC said it is employing the services of a top cybersecurity company to provide network, email, and desktop security.

To further improve BOC’s cybersecurity and immediately act on cybersecurity issues, a security operations center has been established through its network provider and a cybersecurity emergency response team was created.

BOC said these projects should ensure strong and stable network connection that will support its various ICT systems.
