The Bureau of Customs (BOC) Davao and its sub-ports—Dadiangas, Parang, and Mati—have collected P13.7 billion in the first half of 2020, 23% more than the P11.135-billion target revenue for the period.

Collection from the Liquidation and Billing Unit and from public auction amounted to P134.527 million and P18.268 million, respectively, BOC-Davao said in a statement. From January to June, the port apprehended an estimated P83 million worth of illegally imported cigarettes.

For the month of June alone, BOC Davao took in P1.963 billion, 10% over the year-on-year figure of P1.784 billion.

“In the midst of this pandemic, we will continue to serve the public ensuring that the movements of goods will remain unhampered while further strengthening our border security and inspection protocols,” BOC Davao district collector Atty. Erastus Sandino Austria said.

Davao is one of BOC’s 11 collection districts that were able to hit their January-June targets. These include San Fernando, Legazpi, Cebu, Tacloban, Cagayan De Oro, Zamboanga, Subic, Clark, Aparri, and Limay.

BOC for the first half of 2020 has collected P253.04 billion, 0.47% less than the target of P254.25 billion for the period as the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) continued to pummel the economy and restrict business activity in most parts of the country.

The first semester collection was also 16.49% lower than its collection of P303.01 billion during the same period in 2019.

For full year 2019, BOC is tasked to collect P541.703 billion, a 26% reduction from the original P731-billion target following the Development Budget Coordination Committee’s approved adjustment of revenue targets in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
