All Philippine Ship Agents Association officers re-elected for 2022

  • Joselito Ilagan of TMS Ship Agencies, Inc. has been re-elected as the president of the Philippine Ship Agents Association (PSAA) for 2022
  • Ilagan, who is in his second term, will lead PSAA’s 2022 officers and Board of Directors, which were also re-elected for this year’s term
  • Ilagan said the challenge for the association is to increase its membership to have a stronger voice on issues and policies faced by the industry

All Philippine Ship Agents Association (PSAA) officers and Board of Directors were re-elected for 2022, led by president Joselito Ilagan of TMS Ship Agencies, Inc.

Re-elected with Ilagan were:

  • Inter-Asia Marine Transport, Inc.’s Walter Coronel (vice president for internal affairs)
  • Mizzen Shipping Enterprises, Inc.’s Leo Philip Buñag (vice president for external affairs)
  • Ricardo Jamandre of Swen Logistics and Shipping Agency, Inc. (secretary)
  • German Bonifacio, Jr. of I-Prudential Shipping Agency Services, Inc. (treasurer)

Directors:

  • Antonio C. Calingo, Jr. (Wallem Philippines Shipping Agencies, Inc.)
  • Daniel R. Alampay (Baliwag Shipping Agency, Inc.)
  • Brian Walton S. Salonga (RCS Shipping Agencies, Inc.)
  • Russell R. More (NMC Ship Agency & Brokerage, Inc.)
  • Dante A. Romano (Seaway Filipinas Logistics, Inc.)
  • Ildefonso C. Gonzales (Sharp Port Services, Inc.)

The 2022 officers and directors were inducted on June 21 by former PSAA president Agapito D. Capistrano.

In an interview with PortCalls at the sidelines of their induction ceremony, Ilagan said the challenge for the association is to increase membership for an even stronger voice on issues facing the industry.

“We believe there is strength in the numbers especially when we are dealing with issues and policies (implemented) by authorities, or even actions taken by service providers that will have an adverse on our business,” Ilagan noted.

Asked about their outlook for the second half of the year, he said they are “very optimistic” as shipping remains at the forefront of the supply chain and cargoes continue to move, with or without the pandemic. He noted, however, that challenges remain such as high bunker fuel prices, higher charter rates, and effects to trade of the Russia-Ukraine war.
PSAA, which has been in the industry almost 48 years, represents 44 ship agents of foreign shipping lines and foreign trampers that operate in Philippine ports. – Roumina Pablo
