Aboitiz InfraCapital, Inc. (AIC) is offering to develop and improve Iloilo International Airport.

This was confirmed by its parent firm, Aboitiz Equity Ventures, Inc. (AEV), in a regulatory disclosure on April 26. AIC is the wholly-owned infrastructure investment subsidiary of AEV.

AIC president and chief executive officer Cosette Canilao said the unsolicited proposal is in response to Iloilo City mayor Jerry Treñas who earlier sent a letter of request to AIC and the National Economic and Development Authority to consider upgrading the airport under a public-private partnership scheme.

“We believe that we have the right ingredients in AIC in terms of experience and expertise via our technical partner Dublin Airport Authority and on the ground knowledge to deliver the best solution for Iloilo,” Canilao was quoted as saying.

Aside from Iloilo Airport, Canilao said they have submitted updated proposals for Bohol International Airport, Laguindingan Airport, and Bicol International Airport.

AIC in 2018 also submitted an unsolicited proposal to upgrade, expand, operate, and maintain Iloilo International Airport, Laguindingan Airport, and New Bohol International Airport, as well as Bacolod-Silay Airport.

AIC in December 2022 acquired a 33 and 1/3% minus 1 share stake in GMR Megawide Cebu Airport Corp., which operates Mactan-Cebu International Airport. AIC said it envisions the acquisition to be the first step in its continued interest in the airport sector.
