Unithai Shipyard and Engineering Limited is building the largest floating dock in Thailand.

When complete, the dockyard will be 984-foot long and 170-foot wide with a lifting capacity of 48,000 tonnes.

“This new floating dock will increase Unithai Shipyard’s capacity and capabilities to accommodate Aframax and Post-Panamax vessels of up to 170,000 DWT in dry dock for repairs and maintenance,” said Unithai Shipyard Managing Director Teerapon Udomkanjananan. “Together with the existing 50,000-DWT-capacity floating dock, Unithai Shipyard is able to undertake the entire range of ship repair services, for up to more than 200,000 DWT.”

The contract to build the floating dock was awarded to China’s Huarun Dadong Dockyard.

Unithai offers a full range of ship repair, conversion and newbuilding services. The company said its portfolio is constantly expanding and now includes development of offshore structures and the fabrication of oil and gas modules that are in demand worldwide among offshore and onshore energy sector clients.
