ID-10048454Starting July 30, violators of the truck ban will be slapped with a 300% higher fine of P2,000 instead of the current P500.

The Metro Manila Council on July 8 signed Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) resolution No. 14-14 amending the truck ban fines. The resolution also sanctioned suspension of the driver’s license for a year for a three-time offender.

According to MMDA, at least 1,985 truck ban violators have been apprehended from January 1 up to May 31 this year.

The MMDA truck ban prohibits cargo trucks and heavy vehicles with gross weight capacity of 4,500 kilograms from plying Metro Manila City streets from 6am to 10 am and from 5pm to 10pm every day except Sundays and holidays.

On June 9, however, the Metro Manila Council Special Traffic Committee in a resolution designated a 24-hour route (except during Fridays) on which trucks may freely operate in Metro Manila for a period of six months (June 10 to December 10) to help decongest traffic in and around the ports of Manila.

Not covered by the resolution is EDSA, where a total truck ban is still observed, as well as C5 Road, Katipunan Avenue, Commonwealth Avenue and other areas not specified as exempted from the 24-hour specified truck route.
