BusinessWorld released in late December its Top 1000 Corporations in the Philippines for Year 2012.
Eighteen SCMAP member companies made it to the top 150 corporations. In comparison with 2004, 25 companies made it to the top 150. Heading the list and making the top 50 are 10 companies. The corresponding figure in 2004 was 12.
2012 Rank Gross Revenue (PM)
Nestle Phils # 6 104,648
Smart Communications # 9 90,429
San Miguel Foods # 10 85,248
PLDT # 11 81,873
Globe Telecom # 16 71,746
Zuellig Pharma # 20 55,773
Universal Robina Corp # 22 52,583
Unilever # 29 41,176
Jollibee Foods Corp # 35 34,521
United Laboratories # 38 33,126
The eight others that made it to the top 150 are:
Holcim (# 52), SteelAsia Mfg (#66), Del Monte (#86), Lafarge (#100), Metro Drug (# 109), Philip Morris (#118), Tridharma Marketing (#134), and Rustan Supercenters (#135).
The lower numbers for 2012 compared to 2004 is due to membership movements in the last ten years. From 2004 to 2012, the association attracted more medium-sized companies and delisted some bigger member companies
Logistics providers involved in domestic services that made it to the top 1000 are listed below. Obviously the PAL and Cebu Air figures are for its total business. I did not anymore include the toll road operators.
2012 Rank Gross Revenue (PM)
Philippine Air Lines 14 74,126

SMC Shipping & Lighterage 343 5,346
Stix Logistics 380 4,858

Federal Express 610 2,734
Schenker 641 2,558
Oceanic Container Lines 772 1,996
NMCCLI 780 1,956
Lorenzo Shipping Corp. 825 1,838
Montenegro Shipping Lines 842 1,797
Panalpina World Transport 849 1,785
Nippon Express 907 1,645
Only two of the above list are members of SCMAP – LF Phils. and Redsystems. LF is listed under Logistics Services and Redsystems is listed under Storage and Warehousing. Redsystems is the logistics arm of Coca Cola Bottlers. All other Logistics Providers listed in the Top 1000 are in the Transport sector.
The reason for this kind of profile – that Logistics Providers are mainly non-members of SCMAP – is obvious. In the early years of DMAP / SCMAP, only cargo owners were allowed membership. Logistics providers were not allowed. In fact it was only in 2012 that Transport providers were allowed membership. Last year, One Stop Logistics became a member.
