A
Tribute to Bonnie Del Rosario
(April 26, 2004)
By MARY JOYCE LIM, Assistant
Secretary General
When I was asked to
contribute to this column, I pondered on what to write.
As I sat in front of the computer, an idea flashed into
my mind. I thought of writing about our beloved PISFA
Secretary General who is retiring on April 30, 2004.
Mr. Bonifacio Del Rosario,
fondly called Mang Boni by friends and associates, has
served PISFA for the last 15 years. During that time,
he addressed the problems and concerns of the association
and its members, attended meetings and activities, and
represented PISFA in events in and out of the industry.
Mang Boni was the man
behind the success of PISFA projects, seminars, sports
activities and other special events. Before Mang Boni
delivered his swan song, the association thought of
holding a sports event in his honor. The result was
the 1st Badminton Tournament-The Bonnie Del Rosario
Cup, held March 19 to April 2, 2004 at the Olivarez
Sports Complex in Parañaque City.
The idea was conceived
by the present Board of Directors as the association's
way of thanking him for a job well done. All the proceeds
of the tournament went to Mr. Del Rosario. To show him
that the tournament was not enough recognition for his
contribution and great help to the association, Mang
Boni was also given a tribute last April 15, 2004 at
the Century Park Hotel.
Present were the Board
of Directors, past presidents and PISFA members. It
was a day of reminiscing the key points in his career
and his 15 years of service to the association. In his
speech after the tribute, Mang Boni said he was touched
by the importance given to him and said that PISFA could
always rely on him for help.
He thanked the past
presidents who one by one paid him tribute and gave
him gifts, all the members who attended, and the present
Board of Directors headed by Mr. Erich Lingad. For the
short time that I have worked with Mang Boni, I have
been witness to his diligence and dedication to work.
Being the next Secretary
General, I am only too aware of the great challenges
ahead. Knowing how well Mang Boni loved the association,
I can only do my best to continue making PISFA a professional,
well respected organization, and uphold its objectives
and goals.
I will serve it with
the same dedication and pride exhibited by Mang Boni.
I take comfort in the knowledge that his retirement
will not be the end of his association with PISFA. From
all of us who have been a part of your life,
Mabuhay ka Mang Boni!
Mabuhay ang PISFA!
