Domestic passenger volume in the Philippines grew 13.3% to 11.017 million in the first half of the year compared to the same period last year, according to the Civil Aeronautics Board.

Low-cost carrier Cebu Pacific carried the most number of passengers or 4.99 million, up 17%.

Philippine Airlines (PAL) posted a 3.8% decline in the number of passengers serviced to 2.29 million.

Airphil Express, PAL’s low-cost carrier, reported a 29% surge in domestic passengers to 2.39 million as total available seats increased 36% to 3.286 million.

Southeast Asian Airlines, which recently shifted its focus to international operations, posted a steep decline in domestic passengers to 17,565 in the first half from 97,326 last year.

Zest Airways had 1.26 million domestic passengers in the first half, up slightly from 1.14 million last year.

AirAsia Inc, which started operating in the Philippines only in March, flew 60,381 passengers.
