THE Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) and freeport zones are gearing toward the adoption of the automated export declaration system (AEDS) following the latter’s recent implementation in territories under the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Customs (BOC).

Under the AEDS, only exporters, customs brokers and forwarders registered under the BOC’s Client Profile Registration System may electronically lodge export declarations through a value-added service provider (VASP).

The system currently running in customs territories is on parallel manual run although the BOC is looking at fully migrating to the automated version by September 1.

Through VASPs, PEZA will test pilot the new AEDS with some locators and ecozones. Still being worked out are guidelines including those on the PEZA export shipment transfer fee.
