Hong Kong’s Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) and Singapore-based X-Press Feeders announced the launch late this month of a joint feeder service connecting Yangon in Myanmar to Singapore and Malaysia’s Port Klang.

The new service, called the Yangon Straits Shuttle (YSS ), is being offered in the wake of the recent political liberalization of Myanmar and the attendant trading interest the development has been generating.

The YSS will operate two vessels with capacities of 1,000 and 1,100 20-foot equivalent units, with each partner contributing one ship.

The port rotation is Singapore, Yangon, Port Klang, and Singapore. First sailing will be on June 24.

X-Press Feeders is the new name given following the reorganization of Sea Consortium and X-Press Container Line into a single brand in mid-2011.
