Uni-Ship, Inc., the Philippine general agent of Sinotrans Container Lines, has promoted Efren Caboteja as its new president and chief operating officer effective February 1.

Caboteja joined Uni-Ship in 2005 as executive vice-president and general manager. He previously worked with various shipping lines including Dongnama, Choyang Line, Hanjin, Samudera, MSC, and CNC.

With Caboteja’s extensive knowledge and experience in the shipping industry, Uni-Ship said it will again “seize opportunities amidst difficulties such as congestion” at Manila ports.

Caboteja said 2015 still poses a challenge with the congestion “but we continue to strive further, so Uni-Ship is doing its part to help lessen the congestion and let the shipping industry recover.”

The company said it has supported the industry since its founding in 1986 and even during the industry recession in 1990, and “always found solutions and learnt lessons in the challenges it faced.”

Uni-Ship said Caboteja is dedicated to carrying out the company’s core values, such as belief in people as its best assets, and its corporate social responsibility through Sorok Uni Foundation. The foundation was founded by Uni-Ship chairman and chief executive officer Capt. Jae Jang and helps unfortunate individuals afflicted with leprosy as well as homeless people.

Apart from Sinotrans, the third largest shipping firm and top state-owned logistics company in China. Uni-Ship is the agent for Matson, Inc., a US-based shipping company and handling various breakbulk cargoes.
