MacroceanHong Kong-based carrier Macrocean International Shipping Ltd. has started a new China-Manila weekly service, bolstered by optimism over the growing trade between the two countries.

The new service route, LZ Express service, has the port rotation Manila-Shantou-Shihu-Weitou-Xiamen-Manila.

Liberian-flagged vessel Vega Tau, which has a capacity of 990 twenty-foot-equivalent units (TEUs), had its maiden call at Manila South Harbor last November 24, discharging 400 TEUs.

“The ever increasing volume of trade between China and the Philippines is the clear guarantee that our weekly feeder will succeed,” Macrocean Philippine agent Alexandria Marine and General Shipping Agency, Inc. told PortCalls in an email.

China remains the country’s top import source and the third destination for merchandise exports.
