MSC hikes U.S.-Asia rates

Mediterranean Shipping Co. (MSC) announced a rate hike for its United States-Far East service effective November 1, 2011.

The Swiss carrier explained that the rate increases were needed to ensure that its equipment and capacity were adequate to meet the peak-season demand.

The breakdown of MSC’s rate increases: Port-to-port rates for dry containers will increase US$100 per 20-foot equivalent unit and $200 per 40-foot equivalent unit.

Intermodal rates will increase $150 per TEU and $250 per FEU.

For refrigerated shipments, the port-to-port and intermodal hike is $200 per TEU and $300 per FEU.
