The Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) has awarded additional seat entitlements for the Manila-Kuala Lumpur route to three budget carriers.

Approved were the respective petitions of Cebu Pacific, Zest Air and Air Philippines for extra seat entitlements of 720, 1,260 and 540 per week.

Cebu Pacific which mounts 10 weekly flights to the route, will now have a total of 1,800 seats per week.

On June 8, the Philippines and Malaysia amended their air service agreement, increasing seat entitlements and agreeing on unlimited traffic rights to airports outside of Manila by virtue of Executive Order 29 or the open skies policy of the Philippine government.

Last month, CAB also allowed South East Asian Airlines (Seair) and AirAsia Philippines to mount flights to several points in Malaysia.

Seair was awarded 2,520 seats per week to service Clark and Kuala Lumpur; 1,260 seats weekly for flights between Clark and Kota Kinabalu; and 540 seats per week each to Kuching, Penang, and Langkawi.
