Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has set up a wholly owned subsidiary in Myanmar after acquiring a permanent business license from the the country’s government early this month.

The Japanese shipping line said the establishment of Myanmar MOL Limited in Yangon was an indication of its “continued commitment to the Myanmar market,” which has been attracting businesses and investors following the dissolution of military rule in the country in 2011.

MOL said it has had over 100 years of presence in Myanmar, and launched a direct feeder service linking Singapore and Yangon in March 2012.

“We will continue to work with our current agent in Myanmar (Ever Flow River Forwarding) to explore various opportunities in Myanmar, so as to mirror and extend our global service standards,” a company statement said.
