THE Board of Investments (BOI) will require companies registered under the Motor Vehicle Development Program (MVDP) to electronically file their certificate of authority to import (eCAI) starting June 6, 2011.

The system initially entails the automated application and issuance of the CAI and payment of fees. It is aimed at reducing queuing time at the BOI and face-to-face transaction with BOI staff, resulting in better efficiency and lower cost.

In an order released last week, Rudy Cana of the BOI Special Programs Department said the “filing of the Certificate of Authority to Import under the manual process will only be accommodated until June 3, 2011 which will be valid for three months from date it was issued. Starting June 1, 2011, all MVDP participants are advised to start remitting their advance payment/deposit. This will take care of your future eCAI applications payment. Amount of deposit will depend on your projected eCAI transaction in a given timeframe. Cost will be deducted per eCAI issued.”

The eCAI scheme was earlier tested by Honda, Mitsubishi, Suzuki and PhilHino using the services of value-added service provider InterCommerce Network Services.

A final briefing on the system is scheduled on May 31, 2011 at the BOI.
