Jardine Shipping Services recently opened its 13th office in Indonesia at the seaport city of Balikpapan, located in the East Kalimantan province, to provide port agency services for bulk, tanker and multipurpose vessels.

This is the first time the company is establishing a presence in Balikpapan, renowned for its rich natural resources and where the Balikpapan Coal Terminal, which has a handling throughput capacity of 15 million tons per annum, is based.

Jardine entered the Indonesian shipping services market in 1995 and has since established itself as a coal specialist at most of the local ports.

“The new venture will enable us to offer our professional services to many more coal mine owners and charterers in Indonesia. Its opening also ties in with our ongoing expansion strategy, to maintain the position of Jardine Shipping Services as one of the major agency players in Indonesia,” said Ron Godman, Country Manager, Indonesia.

The Balikpapan office will be managed by Imanuel Pessak, who brings with him extensive experience in the ship agency business. Over the past ten years, Pessak has helped manage the operations of Jardine Shipping Services in Indonesia.

Eric van der Hoeven, Chief Executive of Jardine Shipping Services, expressed his support for the new office. “I am looking forward to announcing the launch of even more branches during the course of the year, adding to our network servicing 53 ports throughout the archipelago,” he said.
