Nippon Express leads list of top international airfreight forwarders in PH

Cargo plane2International airfreight forwarders operating in the Philippines shipped 324.763 million kilograms (kg) in 2014, 6.5% more than the 304.975 million kg reported in 2013.

Latest data from the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) showed that consolidations, which contributed 56.1% of the total, grew 1.5% to 139.603 million kg in 2014 from 137.607 million kg in 2013. Break bulk shipments, which accounted for 43.8%, increased 1.1% to 117.101 million kg from 115.850 million kg in the previous year. Direct shipments improved the most with 68.058 million kg, up 32.1% from 51.517 million kg in 2013.

Top 30 international airfreight forwarders

Maintaining its top spot in CAB’s top 30 international airfreight forwarders’ list is Nippon Express Philippines, Inc. with 52.681 million kg of air cargo, or a 16.22% share of the total 2014 volume.

Yusen Logistics Philippines, Inc. followed in second place, rising from fifth spot in 2013. Yusen carried 23.159 million kg for a 7.13% contribution to the total.

Both unchanged in rank are DHL Global Forwarding (Philippines), Inc., in third place with 20.352 million kg (6.27%), and Trans-global Consolidators, Inc. in fourth place with 20.219 million kg (6.23%).

Improving two places each from 2013 were fifth-placer Kintetsu World Express Philippines Inc. with 18.977 million kg (5.84%), sixth-placer Panalpina World Transport (Philippines) Inc. with 17.242 million kg (5.331%), and seventh-placer Schenker Philippines, Inc. with 12.762 million kg (3.93%).

Dropping two places from 2013 to eighth place in 2014, on the other hand, was Kuehne & Nagel, Inc., which airlifted 11.71 million kg (3.61%), followed by UPS-Delbros Transport, Inc., which climbed one spot to ninth place with 8.224 million kg (2.53%).

Expeditors Philippines, Inc. completes the top 10 as it moved up with 5.95 million kg (1.83%) of cargoes airlifted in 2014.

Occupying the 11th to 20th spots are CEVA Logistics Phils. Inc. (1.68%); Federal Express Pacific Inc. (1.66%); Aspac International Airfreight, Inc. (1.55%); UPS SCS (Phils.), Inc. (1.54%); U-Freight Philippines, Inc. (1.47%); World Alliance Freight (1.38%); NNR Global Logistics (Phils.), Inc. (1.32%); AAI Worldwide Logistics, Inc. (1.30%); TL Forwarding Service (Phils.) Inc. (1.12%); and Hankyu Hanshin Express Phils., Inc. (1.11%).

Rounding up the CAB top 30 international airfreight forwarders are Airspeed International Philippines, Inc. (1.09%); DHL Express (Phils.) Corp. (1.06%); Skyfreight Forwarders, Inc. (0.98%); Royal Cargo Combined Logistics (0.91%); Skylink Company, Inc. (0.90%); DSV Air and Sea, Inc. (0.85%); Dimerco Express Philippine (0.83%); Kornet Express, Inc. (0.74%); WPL Wen-Parker Logistics (0.71%); and Express Airfreight Movers, Inc. (0.71%).

Latest data from CAB show there are 368 companies engaged in airfreight forwarding. Of this total, 247 are international air cargo forwarders while 102 carry out both international and domestic freight forwarding. Forwarders handling purely domestic air cargoes number only 19. – Roumina Pablo
