indonesia-portPort operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) III said it would welcome police support to bolster its efforts to cut dwelling time at the Tanjung Perak Container Terminal in Surabaya in East Java, Indonesia.

Edi Priyanto, chief spokesman of the state-run company, said recently that Pelindo III will be ready to facilitate police intervention in seeking to get to the root cause of the long dwelling time at the country’s second largest seaport.

“If that is for our mutual good, we will help and we will work together to find the problem and make a solution,” Edi said as quoted by Antara News.

Pelindo III would be ready to provide data about the dwelling time at the port, he added. He said he already received a telephone call from the East Java Police and the Criminal Investigation Agency about the same problem.

“Pelindo III would be all the more pleased if there is a special police team planning to operate at the port to get to the root of the problem,” he said.

Earlier Edi said Pelindo III already facilitated the setting up of command posts for 100 police officers including detectives and intelligence officers from the Tanjung Perak police administrative unit.

From the command posts police could watch over the process of loading and unloading at the port every day, he said.

Tanjung Perak police chief Takdir Mattanette said he hopes that in one month’s time, the police could clean up the port of unlawful activities such as illegal levies so that loading and unloading could go faster and more smoothly.

“This measure is in line with the directive given by President Joko Widodo who has passed an order to eliminate the causes of long dwelling time at the port,” he said.
