IBM launched its first analytics-based supply chain center in Singapore to help organizations in Asia-Pacific improve their supply chains.

The IBM Supply Chain Analytics Center of Competency (CoC) will develop analytics-based software and hardware supply chain solutions and cloud computing technologies to help enhance the region’s supply chain expertise, the company said in a press release today.

“The goal is to help clients in retail and industrial sectors gain greater insight from big data, further drive operational effectiveness and efficiency, and connect to digitally savvy consumers,” it added.

IBM architects will collaborate with the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) as well as research and educational institutes in the country on technical exchanges, joint research, and commercialization projects.

“With the explosion of big data, enterprises across all industries are looking for ways to gain greater, more accurate insight into their businesses,” said Fran O’Sullivan, general manager of IBM Integrated Supply Chain.

With instant access to product pricing, promotional information and communities of like-minded friends to advise them, today’s consumers are reshaping the way businesses market and deliver goods and services, IBM said.

It said that analytics is the tool that helps clients in the industrial sector connect to consumers in new ways, synchronize supply to demand, gain greater cost savings, and deliver the right products to customers with speed and relevancy.

“Data is fast becoming a new ‘natural resource’ for Singapore. We are pleased that IBM has chosen Singapore to set up its Supply Chain Analytics CoC, as this will help build up our bench strength in data analytics,” said Jayson Goh, executive director of Infocomms & Media of Singapore EDB.
