Maersk Logistics bags Freight Forwarder of the Year award

THE country's freight forwarders came in droves last week to the 1st Philippine Seafreight Forwarders Awards, organized by the Philippine Shippers' Bureau and PortCalls.

More than 300 industry personnel tropped to the Heritage Hotel to witness the awarding of the top seafreight forwarders in 13 awards categories.

Maersk Logistics Filipinas, Inc. bagged five of the 13 awards, including Freight Forwarder of the Year.

The company was also adjudged Overall Winner for the Major Trade Routes (US, Asia and Europe), Overall Winner for US, Best in Export (2002 and 2003), and Best in Export-USA.

Transcontainer (TCL) Phils., Inc. won two awards, Overall Winner for Asia, and Best in Export-Asia (2002 and 2003).

Danzas AEI also bagged two awards: Overall Winner for Europe and Best in Import-Europe.

Fritz Logistics (Phils), Inc. won the Best in Import (2003 and 2003) award, Geologistics (Phils.), the Best in Export-Europe (2002 and 2003) award, RV Marzan International Forwarders, Inc., the Best in Import-Asia award (2002 and 2003), and Direct Container Lines Inc., the Best in Import-USA (2002 and 2003) award.

Save for one company, RV Marzan International Forwarders, Inc., the winners all had international affiliates.

The awards are based solely on statistics submitted to PSB by PSB-accredited freight forwarding companies for the years 2002 and 2003. Submitted every quarter, these statistics are a requirement for renewal of accreditation.

General criteria

The general criteria used for the awards were as follows:

• Company should be accredited with PSB at the time of the Awards

• Company must have complied with the submission of the quarterly cargo statistics (QCS) for 2002 and 2003

• Company must have transaction for 2002 and 2003

• Company must be in the top 50 of the PSB-accredited freight forwarders eligible for the awards

Specific criteria

On the other hand, the specific criteria were:

1. Freight Forwarder of the Year

Given to the freight forwarder with the highest cargo lifting (in TEU) for 2002 and 2003, both export and import, covering the 3 major trade routes and other countries

• Should meet the general criteria

• Should have export and import transaction for 2002 and 2003

2. Overall winner for the three major trade routes (US, Europe, and Asia)

Given to the freight forwarder with the highest cargo lifting (in TEU) in the three (3) major trade routes (USA, Asia and Europe) for 2002 and 2003, export and import

• Should meet the general criteria

• Should have actual presence (export and import) in all the three (3) major trade routes for 2002 and 2003

3. Overall winner for Asia

Given to the FF with the highest cargo lifting (in TEU) for 2002 and 2003 to and from Asia

• Should meet the general criteria

• Should have actual presence (export and import) in Asia for 2002 and 2003

4. Overall winner for USA

Given to the FF with the highest cargo lifting (in TEU) for 2002 and 2003 to and from USA

• Should meet the general criteria

• Should have actual presence (export and import) in USA for 2002 and 2003

5. Overall winner for Europe

Given to the FF with the highest cargo lifting (in TEU) for 2002 and 2003 to and from Europe

• Should meet the general criteria

• Should have actual presence (export and import) in Europe for 2002 and 2003

6. Best in Export Award

Given to the FF with the biggest volume of export cargo (in TEU) moved for 2002 and 2003 in the three major trade routes and other countries

• Should meet the general criteria

7. Best in Import Award

Given to the FF with the biggest volume of importation (in TEU) for 2002 and 2003 in the three major trade routes and in other countries

• Should meet the general criteria

8. Best in Export - Asia

Given to the FF with the biggest volume of cargo (in TEU) moved/carried to Asian countries in 2002 and 2003

• Should meet the general criteria

9. Best in Export - USA

Given to the FF with the biggest volume of cargo (in TEU) moved/carried to USA in 2002 and 2003

• Should meet the general criteria

10. Best in Export - Europe

Given to the FF with the biggest volume of cargo (in TEU) moved/carried to Europe in 2002 and 2003

• Should meet the general criteria

11. Best in Import - Asia

Given to the FF with the biggest volume of cargo (in TEU) moved/carried from Asian countries in 2002 and 2003

• Should meet the general criteria

12. Best in Import - USA

Given to the FF with the biggest volume of cargo (in TEU) moved/carried from USA in 2002 and 2003

• Should meet the general criteria

13. Best in Import - Europe

Given to the FF with the biggest volume of cargo (in TEU) moved/carried from Europe in 2002 and 2003

• Should meet the general criteria

Cargo statistics submitted by finalists were later validated by a team of PSB personnel via a company visit.
