The International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) has elected Geraldine Knatz, executive director of the Port of Los Angeles, its 29th president, succeeding Gichiri Ndua.

Knatz was chosen during the 27th IAPH World Ports Conference held May 23 to 27, 2011 in Busan, Korea.

In her inaugural address, Knatz said she would work on promoting IAPH and growing its membership during her two-year presidency. She would also focus on IAPH priorities that include working with ports to adopt an Environmental Ship Index of best practices for reducing greenhouse gases and curbing pollution from vessels and port-related operations. Other IAPH projects include developing international guidelines for fueling ships with liquefied natural gas.

Knatz’s term ends in May 2013 during the 28th World Ports Conference to be held in Los Angeles.
