Taiwan-based Evergreen Line announced it is deploying its two newly delivered 8,452-TEU ships on the Far East-Europe trade routes in late April.

The Ever Liven, the 10th in a series of L-type container ships to be operated by the ocean carrier, was christened April 18 at the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in South Korea. The naming ceremony for Ever Logic, the 11th vessel, took place on April 19.

The Evergreen group embarked on its ship renewal program in 2010 with an order for 20 L-type vessels from Samsung Heavy Industries. In 2011, it placed a further order for 10 similar vessels from Taiwan Shipbuilding Corp. Eighteen of the 30 newbuildings are expected to be delivered by the end of 2013.

Evergreen Line said L-type container ships are very flexible and can be used not just in the Asia-Europe and North America trades but also on the Asia-South Africa and South America routes.

It said the fleet will allow it to better adjust capacity across a number of trades to meet changing global market demands.
