Global express service company DHL Express will implement rate increases from January 1, 2012.

“The price change applies to all discounted rates and agreements, where contracts allow,” DHL said in a statement.

The price hikes will vary from country to country. In the Asia-Pacific region, the general price increase for express services in most countries, including Singapore, is 4.5 percent.

In Europe, the general rate increase is 2 percent in Switzerland and 4.9 percent in Finland. In the UK, Germany, and most other European nations, the increases are reportedly 3.5 percent for international products and 5 percent for domestic products.

A 3.5 percent price increase is slated in most countries in the Americas. In Latin America and the Caribbean, the price hike is 5.5 percent.

Rate adjustments for the United States and Canada are to be revealed later, according to the firm.

The company, which adjusts its prices annually, explained that inflation and rising costs in the 220 countries it serves were the basis for the adjustments.
