Copenhagen, December 2009 – Damco’s intense focus on sustainability pays off: After a close race between Damco, Norbert Dentressangle, and Schenker, Damco was named best 3PL for sustainability at eyefortransport’s 7th annual European 3PL summit in Brussels, Belgium at the end of November.

Each year, the eyefortransport 3PL awards aim to recognise those 3PLs that continuously deliver excellence in logistics operations and service to customers. This year, the award “Best 3PL for Sustainability” was presented for the first time.

Around 500 3PL customers – shippers, manufacturers and retailers who depend upon and work with logistics service providers every day – voted, thereby recognising Damco’s efforts to enable customers with a green supply chain.

Erling Johns Nielsen, global head of supply chain development at Damco, received the award on behalf of Damco. Mr. Nielsen says: “Damco acknowledges the urgency to act in response to the climate change and always strives to present innovative and solid green, cost saving, logistics solutions for our customers.”

Building on its extensive supply chain expertise, Damco identifies and implements solutions for reducing supply chain carbon emissions along with supply chain cost reductions. Since late 2007, Damco has conducted SupplyChain CarbonCheck™ projects for a wide range of companies globally. Damco’s 5-step methodology has proven that CO2 reductions can be achieved through increased supply chain efficiency, which also translates into reduced supply chain costs and improved service levels. Damco’s SupplyChain CarbonDashboard was launched in 2009 and serves as an enabler for the reporting of carbon emissions on a periodic basis. By zooming in at specific emission levels, the CarbonDashboard immediately allows companies to identify “carbon hotspots” in the supply chain and take action.
