Security at Clark International Airport (CRK) has been tightened following a foiled attempt to bomb the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), the country’s main gateway, on Sept 1.

Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC) president and chief executive officer Victor Jose Luciano has ordered Clark Airport security to be on full alert, especially during night time, to prevent a repeat of the incident that took place at NAIA on September 1, when law enforcers arrested three suspects in the foiled attempt to bomb the airport premises.

“Security around Clark Airport has been tightened to prevent any illegal activities to ensure the safety of the passengers and employees in the area,” Luciano said in a statement.

Airport securities have been on full alert since September 1, said CIAC Security Manager Ret. Brig. Gen. Nestor Deona.

Deona said the airport authority has been checking all incoming vehicles and those parked in the Clark Airport premises with the assistance of bomb-sniffing dogs, particularly in the nighttime.

He added that security measures have likewise been put in place at the Passenger Terminal Building to keep passengers safe.

“We are doing these measures to prevent any incidents that would create disaster in our premises, and we are on full alert 24 hours a day,” he continued.

National Bureau of Investigation operatives on Sept 1 arrested three suspects who were caught in possession of improvised explosive devices at the NAIA Terminal 3 parking area at around 1:30 a.m.

The government has ordered an investigation into the incident.

Clark Airport is host to legacy airlines and low-cost carriers such as Qatar Airways, Asiana Airlines, Dragonair, Cebu Pacific Air, Seair, Tiger Airways, and Jin Air. Air Asia Berhad of Malaysia is set to relaunch its Clark-Kuala Lumpur flights, with a frequency of four times a week.
