Last August 17, 2013 marked another milestone in SCMAP history. The long-standing mandate to establish a chapter outside of NCR was finally achieved after 13 years. The provision for provincial chapters was inserted in the By-laws in year 2000 during the first presidential term of Ike Castillo. SCMAP was still DMAP then.
Why did it take 13 years? At the start of the century, DMAP was busy attracting and recruiting new members by expanding its scope of activities and increasing its visibility and recognition by both government agencies and private organizations in the field of logistics, distribution and transport.
Now, with long-term directions clearer under its expanded scope, SCMAP has been able to assign the task of setting up a provincial chapter to a focused team under its determined leader, President Arnel Gamboa.
The event on August 17 was highlighted by:
- Approval of membership applications of 15 companies
- Election of the board and the officers of the Cebu chapter
