CaroTrans, a global NVOCC (non-vessel operating common carrier) and ocean freight consolidator, has introduced a direct Los Angeles-Ho Chi Minh export and import service to expand its global LCL (less-than-containerload) business.

The new service that transits in 18 days, port to port, has its first sailing on January 13, 2012.

Seahorse Shipping, an NVO in Vietnam and the company’s partner, will manage cargo shipments coming into Vietnam. In the U.S., export customers are supported by an extensive network of local CaroTrans offices and cargo freight receiving stations.

U.S.-based CaroTrans has grown its market presence in Asia to include direct services to and from all major Asia ports. The new Ho Chi Minh service augments CaroTrans’s LCL import service from Vietnam to the Los Angeles gateway service started in July 2011.

“Vietnam is a key trade market for the global shipping industry,” said Greg Howard, CEO of CaroTrans, adding that the service is offered to freight forwarders with export customers that are shipping raw materials, chemicals, machinery and equipment.
