id-100258192Revenues collected as of mid-November show that the Philippine Bureau of Customs (BOC) has exceeded by 7.6% its average daily target.

Preliminary data from BOC’s Financial Service indicated that while the daily target is pegged at P1.762 billion, BOC has achieved an average daily collection of P1.896 billion.

A total of P18.965 billion in revenue has so far been collected in the first 15 days of the month, BOC said in a statement. The projected target by end of November is P36.495 billion.

Six collection districts have significantly contributed to the positive performance. These are Manila International Container Port (MICP), which has an average daily collection of P623.94 million (20.4% above its daily target); Port of Batangas, P393.17 million (up 2.9%); Port of Limay, P141.65 million (up 11.1%); Port of Cebu, P80.63 million (up 14.9%); Port of Subic, P74.59 million (up 9.9%); and Port of Davao, P55.78 million (up 13.3%).

Close to reaching their collection targets are the ports of Manila and Clark, BOC noted.

The customs agency said it is optimistic of surpassing the collection target for November, “considering all reform actions being done under the leadership of Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon.”

“It can be recalled that the Customs chief has strongly urged employees and stakeholders to help rid the Bureau of corruption, which deprives the agency of more revenue,” BOC said in a statement.

Last August, Faeldon ordered the creation of a special committee to address the huge shortfall in revenue collection, and has operationalized CCTV cameras around BOC facilities to monitor transactions in a bid to make services transparent.

“BOC officials believe that this positive trend in revenue performance will continue up to the end of the year,” the agency said.

The bureau’s collection target for 2016 is P409 billion.
