The collection over a period of almost nine months is 261% higher than the collection district’s full-year 2014 auction revenue target of P130 million.

From January to September 16, BOC-MICP conducted 14 public auctions of some 1,319 containers of forfeited shipments.

BOC said the significant jump in the district’s auction proceeds stemmed from the sale of 315 containers of glutinous and white rice on September 11 that earned over P393 million.

On September 16, BOC-MICP also sold an estimated 486,870 kilograms of garlic for P12.065 million, or about P24.78 per kilo.

“More than raising revenues for the government, the aggressive disposition of forfeited goods has also helped decongest the Manila International Container Terminal, and sent a strong message to our stakeholders that we are committed to implementing customs laws and policies to the letter,” BOC-MICP district collector Elmir Dela Cruz said in a statement.

“On top of the public auctions, BOC-MICP also condemned 1,091 boxes of seized goods that can neither be sold through public bidding nor donated to the Department of Social Welfare and Development,” BOC said.

These included pirated or fake goods, and expired food items and medicines with no permits from the Food and Drug Administration.
