Malaysian low-cost carrier Air Asia Berhad has officially returned to Clark International Airport (CIA) with the re-launch of its four-times-a-week Clark-Kuala Lumpur flights.

Newly appointed Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC) president and chief executive officer Atty. Emigdio Tanjuatco III said the return of Air Asia to Clark is “more than welcome” and hopes the budget carrier’s stay “would be permanent.”

Tanjuatco is also hoping that Air Asia Philippines, the local arm of Air Asia Berhad, will transfer its operations to Clark Airport following the return of its parent carrier.

“We also hope, based on the conversations with Ms. Maan Hontiveros, that they’re very impressed with the new developments at the airport and that they will try to convince their Manila operations to transfer to Clark,” Tanjuatco said, referring to Marianne Hontiveros, chief executive officer and president of Air Asia Philippines.

“I think this is a positive development for Clark Airport, and on our part (CIAC), we will try to keep them satisfied (and) make sure that all their concerns are addressed and build a better relationship with Air Asia,” Tanjuatco added.

Air Asia Berhad, using its AirbusA320 aircraft, departed from Clark to Kuala Lumpur with more than 100 passengers aboard at the re-launch of its flight service.

Clark Airport is also host to other air carriers, such as Cebu Pacific Air, Asiana Airlines, Jin Air, Dragonair, Seair-International, Tiger Air, and Qatar Airways.
