Vision
To be the leading source of relevant and up-to-date information on and for the transportation and logistics industry in the Philippines.
History
PortCalls has been in existence since 1996. It is the brainchild of a team of seasoned business journalists and editors with extensive publishing experience in the Philippines and overseas.
The publication started as a monthly glossy carrying local and international articles on the transportation industry, international shipping (sea and air) schedules as well as a directory of cargo transport service providers. The cargo directory entries were later released separately as an annual publication under the title The Philippine Cargo Directory.
In 1997 the magazine format gave way to tabloid lending to a more handy feel. The monthly frequency and contents, however, stayed.
A few months later, the frequency was increased to once a week (every Monday) in response to market demand for a more frequent publication on the industry. The move was successful that after only a few weeks the PortCalls frequency was increased once again - this time to twice each week, thus bringing to life the Wednesday issue.
In 2002, the newspaper faced another challenge - to accommodate even more articles in the face of an increasing number of advertisements. This gave birth to today's format, the broadsheet. The result is a newspaper not only bigger in size but greater in editorial scope.
It also welcomed new features such as columns on world trade and customs (Across Borders), shippers' interests (SCMAP Perspective), IT developments in ports and shipping (ITinerary), landmark cases on the transportation industry (Narrow Channel), burning issues of the day (In Their View), and shipping industry trivia (Did You Know?). In addition, the Consol Services section was introduced. The section identifies international ports served by major Philippine-based freight forwarders.
Through all the changes, PortCalls has remained steadfast in its commitment to provide Philippine shippers only the most useful and up-to-date information on the local and international transportation industry.
